Senior libero Catherine Fulton breaks the school record for digs in a
season
Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne College Volleyball Team (18-15, 6-8)
defeated Mars Hill College (13-18, 0-13), 3-1 (30-11, 22-30, 30-17, 30-25), in the Bears’ South Atlantic
Conference regular season finale Saturday morning in Hickory. The match was also
Senior Day for Lenoir-Rhyne.
Senior libero Catherine Fulton (Hendersonville, N.C./Hendersonville
HS) tallied 28 digs as she broke the school record for digs in a season with
718. The previous record was 710, set by Fulton during the 2005 season.
Junior middle blocker Abby Smith (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem HS)
totaled a match-high 20 kills to lead the Bears offensively, while Freshman
middle blocker Caroline Albertelli (Plantation, Fla./Chaminade Madonna
Prep) notched 16 kills in 21 attempts with two errors for a hitting percentage
of .667.
Bear senior setter Lauren McLelland (Statesville, N.C./West Iredell
HS) finished with the match’s only double-double with 44 assists and 10 digs.
Senior outside hitter Natalie Krause (Lakeland, Fla./Lake Gibson HS)
added eight digs for Lenoir-Rhyne.
The Lions were led by Lindsay Phillips (Rosman, N.C.) and Chelsea Coleman
(Woodstock, Ga.) as they registered 13 and 11 kills, respectively.
Both Lenoir-Rhyne and Mars Hill will next compete in the 2007 Food Lion South
Atlantic Conference Tournament in Jefferson City, Tenn., on Friday. Their
opponents and match times are yet to be determined.
