Brevard Volleyball Holds Off Lenoir-Rhyne To Win In Four
Games, 3-1
Caroline Albertelli leads the Bears with 21 kills despite the loss
Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College Volleyball Team (14-8) held off a
late charge by Lenoir-Rhyne College (14-12) to win in four games, 30-25, 30-32,
30-21 and 33-31.
The Tornados were led by senior co-captain and middle hitter Marquessa
Chappell (Lake Toxaway, N.C.) who collected a match high 22 kills and four block
assists for the match.
Brevard middle hitter Brooke Seaman (Spring Hill, Fla.) recorded 15 kills,
two solo blocks and four block assists of her own over the four-game span while
Tornado setter Jami Perry (Greer, S.C.) dished out 44 assists for the match.
With the score knotted up at 30-30 in the fourth game, Brevard's Jessica
Whitmire (Lake Toxaway, N.C.) picked up a huge block on a Lenoir-Rhyne attack
attempt to push the Tornados in front 31-30.
On the next play, it would be yet another block, this time by Seaman that
would seal the 32-30 game four win and score the match victory for the Tornados.
Lenoir-Rhyne freshman middle blocker Caroline Albertelli (Plantation,
Fla./Chaminade Madonna Prep) led the Bears with 21 kills for the match, while
junior outside hitter Katie Novacek (Raleigh, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons HS)
added 16 kills of her own to go along with five blocks.
Lenoir-Rhyne hosts Newberry on Homecoming Saturday tomorrow at 11 a.m., in a
South Atlantic Conference match.
