Tusculum College Sweeps Lenoir-Rhyne, 3-0, In Volleyball
For 10th Straight Win
Bears lose to the Pioneers for the first time since the 2002 season
Greeneville, Tenn. – The Tusculum College Volleyball Team (18-7, 7-1) won
its 10th straight match in a 3-0 sweep of Lenoir-Rhyne College (13-10, 2-4)
Friday evening at Pioneer Arena in Greeneville, Tenn. Tusculum won by
scores of 30-21, 30-23 and 30-23 to remain in second place in the South Atlantic
Conference.
Lenoir-Rhyne lost despite 13 kills, a .619 hitting percentage and no errors by
junior middle blocker Katie Novacek (Raleigh, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons HS)
and 32 assists from senior setter Lauren McLelland (Statesville,
N.C./West Iredell HS).
Meanwhile, senior libero Catherine Fulton (Hendersonville,
N.C./Hendersonville HS) added 23 digs for the Bears, who lost to the Pioneers
for the first time since the 2002 season.
For Tusculum, Mariana Rezende led the way with a double-double, 45 assists and
11 digs, while Vivian lacy added 16 kills.
Lenoir-Rhyne next faces Mars Hill College in a South Atlantic Conference match
on Saturday at 11 a.m., in Mars Hill, N.C.
