Lenoir-Rhyne's Lamont Savages Places First In The Long Jump
At The Duke Twilight In Track And Field
Select members of the Bears' track team have impressive performances at
the Blue Devils' meet
Durham, N.C. - Several athletes on the Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Track and
Field Team had some outstanding performances Sunday afternoon and evening at the
Duke University Twilight Meet in Durham, N.C.
Sophomore Lamont Savage (Salisbury, N.C./West Rowan HS), who has
already qualified as a provisional in the 2008 NCAA Division II National
Championship in the long jump, finished first with a jump of 22 feet and 6.25
inches.
Freshman Anton Graphenreed (Columbus, Ga./Shaw HS) placed fifth in the
400-meter run with a time of 47.82 seconds while L-R's 1,600-meter relay squad
finished third (3:22.88).
Graphenreed's time, which established a new school record, also helped him
qualify as a provisional for the national championship meet.
Graphenreed's 10.99-second time in the 100-meter dash was good for ninth
place as well and freshman Bobby Komisarski (Beaver Creek, Ohio/Xenia
Christian HS) ran the 400-meter hurdles in 56.92 seconds to place sixth.
Meanwhile, freshman Marcus Shuford (Newton, N.C./Newton-Conover HS)
finished third in the high jump (six feet and 2.75 inches).
In the distance events, senior Josh Stuckey (Stony Point, N.C./West
Iredell HS) placed 20th in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:40.20.
Freshman Matt Corbin's (Franklin, N.C./Appalachian State Univ.)
2:00.54 time in the 800-meter run set a new Bear record also.
Lenoir-Rhyne ends the 2008 regular season at the Clemson Orange and Purple
Meet next Saturday in Clemson, S.C.
