Records Fall For Lenoir-Rhyne Track And Field At The Bobcat Invitational/Tri-Conference Meet

Sophomore Lamont Savage earns Provisional Qualifying Mark for the NCAA Division II National Championship in the long jump

Banner Elk, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne College Track and Field Teams finished first (men) and third (women) out of South Atlantic Conference schools in the Bobcat Invitational/Tri-Conference Meet this past weekend in Banner Elk, N.C., on the campus of Lees-McRae College.  The men's team finished second overall (83 pts.) out of the 14 team field to King College (Tenn.) (93 pts.).

Sophomore Lamont Savage (Salisbury, N.C./West Rowan HS) won the long jump (23' 10") and earned a Provisional Qualifying Mark for the NCAA Division II National Championship.  Savage finished 10th at the 2007 NCAA Division II national meet.

Sophomore Jacob Lane (Walnut Cove, N.C./South Stokes HS) also finished first with a 45’ 08" throw in the shot put while sophomore Joey Robinson (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg HS) and freshman Troy Crawford (Staunton, Va./Robert E. Lee HS) finished second in the 110 hurdles (15.36 seconds) and high jump (6' 4''), respectively.

Meanwhile, Lenoir-Rhyne's 400-meter relay team - Robinson, Savage, freshmen Anton Graphenreed (Columbus, Ga./Shaw HS) and Jasper Thomas (High Point, N.C./T. Wingate Andrews HS) - placed third with a school-record 42.22 seconds.

Another L-R record was redshirt freshman Matt Corbin's (
Franklin, N.C./Appalachian State Univ.) 2:00 in the 800-meter, good for fifth place overall.

On the women's side, sophomore Kristen Fulmer (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch HS) finished first in the high jump at 5' 2".

Junior Genna Eisenmann (Clayton, N.C./Clayton HS) placed fifth in the javelin (83' 9.5") while sophomore Alyssa Lowe (Maiden, N.C./North Lincoln HS) finished sixth (82’ 7”).

Lowe and junior Bekah Peeler (Mocksville, N.C./Davie County HS) finished fourth and fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (13:11 & 13:34), respectively.

In the 1,600-meter relay - Eisenmann, sophomore Elycia Zempel (Redding, Calif./Enterprise HS) and freshmen Sharron Davis (Winston-Salem, N.C./North Davidson HS) and Miranda Annas (Granite Falls, N.C./South Caldwell HS) - L-R finished sixth overall with a time of 4:29.

Lenoir-Rhyne next competes in the Duke Twilight on Sunday, May 4, in Durham, N.C.
