Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Tennis Places Two On The 2008
All-South Atlantic Conference Second Team
Bears receive first all-league selections since sport was reintroduced in
2004-05
Rock Hill, S.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne College Women’s Tennis Team placed
two on the 2008 All-South Atlantic Conference Second Team, league officials
announced Friday as a part of the 2008 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference
Women’s Tennis Tournament.
Junior Kate Meiners (Matthews, N.C./Piedmont HS) and freshman
Ashley Halvorson (Southlake, Texas/Carroll HS) took home league accolades
for the Bears. The honors are the first for L-R players since the sport was
reintroduced in the 2004-05 season. Lenoir-Rhyne finished 6-8 and 2-5 in SAC
play under first year Director of Tennis Bobby McKee this season, tying a
school record for league wins.
Meiners played both No. 1 singles and doubles for the Bears this season with
11 combined wins in singles and doubles play. Sophomore Kelli Ball (Hanahan,
S.C./Keller [Texas] HS) was Meiners’ doubles partner for the season.
Halvorson went 10-3 in singles matches, with a 5-2 mark in conference play at
No. 2 and No. 3 singles while teaming up with junior Jen Binney (Cocoa
Beach, Fla./Cocoa Beach HS) to win eight matches at No. 2 doubles.
The Women’s Tennis All-South Atlantic Conference Teams are voted on by the
league’s eight head coaches.
