Carson-Newman Women’s Tennis Tops Lenoir-Rhyne, 7-2, In
South Atlantic Conference Action
Ashley Halvorson and Kelli Ball pick up wins for the Bears
Hickory, N.C. – The Carson-Newman College Women’s Tennis Team (7-1,
4-0) remained undefeated in South Atlantic Conference play as it topped
Lenoir-Rhyne College (6-5, 2-3), 7-2, Wednesday afternoon at Jaycee Park in
Hickory.
The Lady Eagles took all three doubles matches before winning four of six
singles pairings for the final 7-2 tally. Amanda Bartlett (Powder Springs, Ga.)
won at No. 1 singles (6-3, 6-1) for Carson-Newman while Elizabeth Sneed
(Kingsport, Tenn.) claimed victory in No. 3 singles (6-3, 6-1).
Lenoir-Rhyne was led by freshman Ashley Halvorson (Southlake,
Texas/Carroll HS) and sophomore Kelli Ball (Hanahan, S.C./Keller [Texas]
HS) as they picked up wins at No. 2 singles (6-4, 6-2) and No. 4 singles (6-2,
6-3), respectively.
L-R will continue its home stand this weekend as it faces North Georgia on
Friday and SAC-rival Newberry on Saturday. Both matches are doubleheaders with
the men and are slated to start at 2:00 p.m.
