Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Tennis Sweeps Livingstone, 9-0, In
Hickory Thursday
Bears win third straight match
Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne College Women’s Tennis Team (5-3)
swept Livingstone College, 9-0, at the Laurie Newman Tennis Center at Hickory
High School Thursday afternoon. The win was the third straight for the Bears.
L-R only lost 13 games in the entire match, as it rolled over the Blue Bears
for its second sweep in three matches.
Junior Kate Meiners (Matthews, N.C./Piedmont HS) won her No. 1 singles
match (6-1, 6-2) while sophomore Kelli Ball (Hanahan, S.C./Keller [Texas]
HS) took No. 4 singles (6-1, 6-0). The tandem took the win in No. 1 doubles
(8-2).
Freshman Ashley Halvorson (Southlake, Texas/Carroll HS) extended her
singles win streak to five matches as she claimed victory in No. 2 singles (6-2,
6-0) while No. 2 doubles teammate Jen Binney (Cocoa Beach, Fla./Cocoa
Beach HS) claimed victory in No. 3 singles (6-0, 6-2). The pair won their
doubles match by an 8-1 score.
Sophomore Bekah Rhoney (Hickory, N.C./St. Stephens HS) won at No. 5
singles (6-0, 6-2) and teamed up with junior Amanda Hunsucker (Conover,
N.C./Newton-Conover HS), who won No. 6 singles (6-0, 6-0), to take No. 3 doubles
by an 8-0 score.
Lenoir-Rhyne will end its two-game home stand with a 2:00 p.m., match with
Fayetteville State on Tuesday.
