Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Tennis Downs Mars Hill, 6-3, In South
Atlantic Conference Action Sunday
Bears move to 4-3, 2-1 on the year
Mars Hill, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne College Women’s Tennis Team (4-3,
2-1) defeated Mars Hill College (3-7, 0-3), 6-3, Sunday afternoon in South
Atlantic Conference Action.
L-R fell behind 2-1 after the doubles section of the match with its lone win
coming from No. 2 doubles team junior Jen Binney (Cocoa Beach, Fla./Cocoa
Beach HS) and freshman Ashley Halvorson (Southlake, Texas/Carroll HS) by
a score of 8-2.
The Bears reeled off victories in No. 2 through No. 6 singles to clinch the
match, highlighted by sophomore Bekah Rhoney’s (Hickory, N.C./St.
Stephens HS) 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.
Mars Hill was led by Patty La Rovere (Caracas, VENEZUELA) as she claimed a
three set victory at No. 1 singles (2-6, 6-4, 6-4), and won, 8-2, at No. 1
doubles with Kim Blythe (Hendersonville, N.C.).
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face Livingstone on Thursday. First serve is set
for 1:00 p.m.
