No. 20 Slippery Rock Women’s Tennis Downs Lenoir-Rhyne,
7-2, Thursday Evening In Hickory
Freshman Ashley Halvorson goes 2-0 for the day
Hickory, N.C. – The No. 20 Slippery Rock University Women’s Tennis
Team (7-1) defeated Lenoir-Rhyne College (2-2), 7-2, Thursday evening at the
Laurie Newman Tennis Center at Hickory High School.
The Bears were led by freshman Ashley Halvorson (Southlake,
Texas/Carroll HS), who won No. 3 singles (6-1, 1-6, 6-3) and teamed up with
Jen Binney (Cocoa Beach, Fla./Cocoa Beach HS) to take No. 2 doubles (8-3)
from Slippery Rock.
SRU was led by Kayla Blackburn (Alum Bank, Pa.) and Laura Handy (Pittsburg,
Pa.) as they won No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, and No. 1 doubles as a
team.
Lenoir-Rhyne will return to the hardcourt on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m.,
when it takes on East Stroudsburg in a twin-bill with the men’s team.
