Brevard College Men’s Tennis Downs Lenoir-Rhyne, 6-3, In
Hickory Friday
Andy Bridges and Alex Stockton both go 2-0 on the day
Hickory, N.C. – The Brevard Men’s Tennis Team (1-2) defeated
Lenoir-Rhyne (0-2), 6-3, Friday at Hickory High School. The match was the 2008
home opener for L-R.
Sophomore Andy Bridges (Shelby, N.C./Shelby HS) and freshman Alex
Stockton (Mauldin, S.C./Mauldin HS) both went 2-0 on the day as they teamed
up to win No. 3 doubles, 8-2.
Bridges won No. 5 singles (6-4, 6-3) and Stockton took No. 6 singles (6-2,
6-0) to give the Bears their three wins of the match.
Brevard was led by Andrew Thompson (San Antonio, Texas) and Konstantin
Savelyev (Karaganda, KAZAKHSTAN) as they won No. 1 doubles, 8-0. Thompson took
No. 1 singles (6-2, 6-1) and Savelyev claimed victory in No. 2 singles (6-1,
6-0)
Lenoir-Rhyne will return to the court on Saturday, March 8 when it hosts East
Stroudsburg at 10:00 a.m., while Brevard travels to Tusculum on Sunday for a
2:00 p.m. match with the Pioneers.
