Limestone Women’s Swimming Defeats Lenior-Rhyne,
111-80, In Hickory Saturday Afternoon
Freshman Emily Fowler wins the 200-yard
breaststroke for the Bears
Hickory, N.C. – The Limestone College
Women’s Swimming Team (3-1, 3-0) defeated Lenoir-Rhyne College (2-3, 1-1),
111-80, in a matchup Saturday between the two Bluegrass Mountain Conference
schools. The meet was the first-ever home swimming event for Lenoir-Rhyne.
The Lady Saints were led by Renee-Marie Pouchet (Maraval,
TRINIDAD & TOBAGO) as she finished first in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard
freestyle as an individual and in the 400-yard medley relay as a team.
Marija Grubic (Split, CROATIA) also took first in
two events for Limestone. She won the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard
backstroke.
The Bears were led by freshman Emily Fowler
(Kernersville, N.C./East Forsyth HS) as she won L-R’s only individual event of
the afternoon. Fowler won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 3:05.46,
establishing a school record in the process.
Senior Nicole Ley (Cupertino, Calif./Monta
Vista HS) set the Lenoir-Rhyne mark in the 200-yard backstroke at 2:30.58,
giving her the school record in both backstroke events.
Lenoir-Rhyne will next swim at Campbell
University on Friday beginning at 5:00 p.m. and continuing on Saturday at 9:00
a.m.
