The 2008 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships
Bears finish
inaugural season with a successful showing at the conference meet
Charlotte, N.C. – The
Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Swimming Team finished 10th out of 12 schools at the 2008
Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships held from Wednesday through Saturday
at the Mecklenburg County Aquatics Center. The meet concluded the Bears'
inaugural season as a varsity sport.
Johns Hopkins University took home
the conference title as Wingate University and Savannah College of Art & Design
rounded out the top three.
As a team, the Bears set 10 school
records on the weekend including three individual records by senior Nicole
Ley (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista HS). Ley was also a part of the 200 and
400-yard freestyle and medley relay teams, all four of which set new top marks
for L-R.
Sophomore Jessy Barriger
(Taylorsville, N.C./Alexander Central HS) clocked a new record time in the
100-yard freestyle (:58.54) and sophomore Mary Ellen Stephens
(Greensboro, N.C) set a new record in the 400-yard individual medley (5:27.02)
in addition to swimming on all four record-setting relay teams.
