Catawba Routs Lenoir-Rhyne, 139-44, In Women’s
Swimming Action
Senior Nicole Ley wins the 100-yard butterfly
in final home meet of her career
Hickory, N.C. – The Catawba College
Women’s Swimming Team won nine of 10 events Saturday afternoon against
Lenoir-Rhyne College in Bluegrass Mountain Conference Action. The Lady Indians
prevailed by a score of 139-44 at L-R’s Shuford Physical Education Center Pool.
Catawba was led by Christine Ofslager
(Midlothian, Va.), who won the 200-yard freestyle, the 100-yard backstroke and
was the first leg on the 400-yard freestyle relay team which also took first in
the competition.
For the Bears, senior Nicole Ley
(Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista HS) won the lone race of the day for the Bears.
Ley’s time of 1:07.29 in the 100-yard butterfly was good for first place, and
gives her the top time in the event at Lenoir-Rhyne’s pool.
Sophomore Jessy Barriger (Taylorsville,
N.C./Alexander Central HS) took second place in the 200-yard individual medley
with a time of 2:27.91.
Lenoir-Rhyne will next compete at Wingate on
Saturday, Jan. 26 at a time yet to be determined, while Catawba will host
Pfeiffer in both men’s and women’s action on Friday, Jan. 18 at 2:00 p.m.
