No. 12 Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Sweeps Limestone, 8-0 and 10-2
Sophomore Brittany Cherry drives in seven runs total in the doubleheader
Gaffney, S.C. – The No. 12 Lenoir-Rhyne College Softball Team (41-10)
swept a doubleheader from Limestone College (21-33), 8-0 and 10-2, Tuesday
afternoon at Lady Saints Field in Gaffney, S.C. Both contests lasted just five
innings due to the eight-run rule.
Game One – Lenoir-Rhyne 8, Limestone 0
Senior Meredith O’Connor (Charlotte, N.C./Appalachian State Univ.)
allowed just one hit while striking out seven batters as she improved to 29-7 on
the season in the win.
Lenoir-Rhyne got things going on a two-run home run by senior first baseman
Leah Krohn (Taylorsville, N.C./Alexander Central HS) in the second
inning.
The Bears then put the contest out of the reach with a six-run third inning
that included a solo home run from senior catcher Karie Pushard
(Harrisburg, N.C./Central Cabarrus HS) and a bases-clearing double from
sophomore outfielder Brittany Cherry (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Carolina Forest
HS).
Lisa DeMarr (Alpharetta, Ga.) suffered the loss and fell to 5-11 for
Limestone.

Game Two – Lenoir-Rhyne 10, Limestone 2
L-R rallied from 1-0 deficit with five runs in each of the fourth and fifth
innings to turn the contest into a rout and complete the sweep of the Saints.
Cherry had a two-run double in the fourth inning and added a two-run single
in the fifth frame for Lenoir-Rhyne.
Cherry finished with two hits and four RBI while sophomore third baseman
Lauren Johnson (Chesterfield, Va./Manchester HS) added three runs batted in
to lead the Bears’ 13-hit attack.
Samantha Weaver (Emmitsburg, Md.) and Chelsea Anthony (Pickens, S.C.) hit
solo home runs in the second and fifth innings, respectively, despite the loss
for the Saints.
L-R freshman Morgan Vickers (Randleman, N.C./Randleman HS) improved to
4-1 with the victory while Limestone’s Emily Wallace (Winchester, Ky.) fell to
13-15 with the defeat.

Lenoir-Rhyne, the 2008 South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Co-Champions,
is the No. 2 seed in the Food Lion SAC Tournament and will face seventh-seeded
Newberry in the first round on Thursday beginning at 2:00 p.m., in Newberry,
S.C.
