No. 20 Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Routs North Carolina Central,
12-1, Friday On The Road
Bears pound out twelve hits in the win
Cary, N.C. - The No. 20 Lenoir-Rhyne College Softball Team (25-8)
routed North Carolina Central University (1-21) Friday afternoon by a score of
12-1 at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, N.C.
Leading 1-0 after one inning, the Bears put the game away in the second,
scoring six runs on four hits and three Lady Eagle errors.
Redshirt freshman shortstop Kat Rivers (Royston, Ga./Franklin County
HS) led off the bottom of the second with a triple and was driven home by
sophomore third baseman Lauren Johnson's (Chesterfield, Va./Manchester
HS) single up the middle. N.C. Central committed two straight errors as L-R
plated four more runs in the second stanza.
In the bottom of the third frame, Lenoir-Rhyne tallied five more runs
highlighted by two-out, two-run base hits by senior catcher Karie Pushard
(Harrisburg, N.C./Central Cabarrus HS) and Rivers.
The Lady Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Michelle
Ishida (San Gabrielle, Calif.) scored on a single by Ashanti Stroud
(Kenansville, N.C.).
Senior Meredith O'Connor (Charlotte, N.C./Appalachian State Univ.)
(15-5) picked up the win for the Bears while Kristen Schooler (Mitchellville,
Md.) (0-11) suffered the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne will return to South Atlantic Conference action on Tuesday when
it travels to Jefferson City, Tenn., to face Carson-Newman College. First pitch
is set for 1:00 p.m.
