Armstrong Atlantic State Softball Sweeps No. 23
Lenoir-Rhyne, 1-0 And 9-3
Bears fall to 17-6 on the season
Savannah, Ga. – The Armstrong Atlantic State Softball Team (12-9)
swept a doubleheader from No. 23 Lenoir-Rhyne College (17-6), 1-0 and 9-3,
Wednesday afternoon at Pirate Field in Savannah, Ga.
Game One – Armstrong Atlantic State 1, Lenoir-Rhyne 0
The Pirates’ Jacquie Crane threw a six-hit shutout and Sam Floyd drove in the
game’s only run with an RBI single in the third inning.
Senior Meredith O’Connor (Charlotte, N.C./Appalachian State Univ.)
took the loss for the Bears despite giving up just two hits while striking out
three as she fell to 9-3 on the season.

Game Two – Armstrong Atlantic State 9, Lenoir-Rhyne 3
Armstrong Atlantic State erased a 2-0, first-inning deficit with four runs in
the second inning and plated two more in the third inning for a 6-2 advantage en
route to the sweep.
Ashley Bain led the Pirates with a two-run home run in the sixth inning while
Stephanie Mattes drove in two runs to lead Armstrong Atlantic State’s 11-hit
attack.
L-R redshirt freshman shortstop Kat Rivers (Royston, Ga./Franklin
County HS) led the Bears offensively with two hits and an RBI single in the
first inning.
Floyd (4-5) picked up the win for Armstrong Atlantic State while junior
Noel Belk (Charlotte, N.C./Queens Univ.) fell to 6-2 with the loss.

L-R will next travel to Florence, S.C., to face UNC Pembroke (5:00 p.m.) on
Friday on the first day of the Francis Marion Invitational in Florence, S.C.
