Catawba Women’s Soccer Downs Lenoir-Rhyne, 2-0, In The
Semifinals Of The Food Lion SAC Tournament
Bears end the year with a 7-10-3 record
Rock Hill, S.C. – The Catawba College Women’s Soccer Team (14-4-2)
shut out Lenoir-Rhyne College (7-10-3), 2-0, in the semifinals of the 2007 Food
Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament Friday evening at Manchester Meadows
in Rock Hill, S.C.
Catawba is the third seed in the tournament while Lenoir-Rhyne was seeded
seventh. With the victory, Catawba moves onto the championship match on Sunday
at 3:30 p.m., against Lincoln Memorial University.
After a scoreless first half, Catawba got on the board in the 56th minute
when Lauren Whiteley (Greensboro, N.C.) scored off a throw in. Tasha Wilheim
(Mt. Savage, Md.) assisted on the play as her throw-in bounced through the box
to the far post where Whiteley kicked it in for the 1-0 lead.
The Lady Indians extended their lead in the 69th minute when Alexandra Beshk
(Mission Viejo, Ca.) connected for her 15th goal of the season. Beshk received a
pass from Wilhelm in the left side of the box and knocked it into the upper 90
for a 2-0 lead.
Kathleen Blake (Greensboro, N.C.) had two saves in the game, both coming in
the second half, on way to her fifth shutout of the season.
