Tusculum Women’s Soccer Scores Four Unanswered Goals To
Down Lenoir-Rhyne, 4-1
Bears finish the regular season 7-9-2
Hickory, N.C. – The Tusculum College Women’s Soccer Team (13-5, 4-3)
scored four unanswered goals to defeat Lenoir-Rhyne College (7-9-2, 2-5), 4-1,
on the Bears’ Senior Day Saturday.
Lenoir-Rhyne scored its only goal of the day early in the match (9:32) when
junior forward Whitney Cline (Morganton, N.C./Freedom HS) chipped a cross
from freshman forward Stevie Dellinger (Morganton, N.C./Freedom HS) past
the keeper for the score.
After L-R’s goal, the Pioneers took control of the match. Five minutes later
(14:57), Danielle Tanner (Toronto, Ontario, CANADA) shot the ball from the right
side of the field outside the 18-yard box and found the back of the net to even
the match at one.
Tanner would assist on the next two Tusculum goals. Tanner found Courtney
Turner (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) in 34th minute and Amanda Tripp (Naples, Fla.) in the
65th minute to put the match away at 3-1.
Tusculum scored its final goal of the match with 21:10 remaining. Heather
Craft (Cincinnati, Ohio) took the Nicole Ferris’ (Lebanon, Ohio) corner kick and
placed it in the back of the net to make the score 4-1.
Tori Hadjopoulos (Greeneville, Tenn.) picked up the win in goal for Tusculum
while senior Nicole Ley (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista HS) suffered the
loss for Lenoir-Rhyne.
L-R’s next match will be in the first round of the 2007 Food Lion South
Atlantic Conference Tournament on Wednesday when it travels to Newberry, S.C.,
to face Newberry.
