Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Soccer Rallies To Beat Mars Hill, 2-1,

Junior Whitney Cline scores the match-winner for the Bears
Mars Hill, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne College Women’s Soccer Team (7-7-2,
2-4) rallied from a 1-0 second-half deficit to defeat Mars Hill College (8-9,
3-3), 2-1, in a South Atlantic Conference matchup Saturday night at Meares
Stadium in the Ammons Family Athletic Center.
The Lions opened the scoring just 11:05 into the match when Caity Murnahan
(Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) scored the Lions’ lone goal on a bending corner kick.
The goal proved to be the only score before intermission.
After the break, Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore defender Amber Holt
(Charlotte, N.C./Hopewell HS) tied the contest at one in the 47th minute off a
cross from sophomore forward Lauren Rosch (Knoxville, Tenn./Farragut HS).
Lenoir-Rhyne made it 2-1 five minutes later (51:44) when junior forward
Whitney Cline (Morganton, N.C./Freedom HS) hooked a corner kick into the net
for her third goal of the season.
Senior Nicole Ley (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista HS) picked up the win
in goal for the Bears while making six saves. Claudia Cala (Hamilton, N.J.)
suffered the loss for the Lions despite stopping 12 shots.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns to action on Monday when it will host Belmont Abbey
College at 3:00 p.m. at Bears Field. The contest will begin a two-match home
stand for the Bears, who will end the regular season at home against Tusculum
next Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
