Newberry Women's Soccer Downs Lenoir-Rhyne, 3-2, With Late
Goal

Hickory, N.C. - The Newberry College Women's Soccer Team (7-7-4,
3-2-1) scored a late goal to defeat Lenoir-Rhyne College (6-6-2, 1-4), 3-2,
Friday afternoon at the Newberry Soccer Complex in Newberry, S.C.
Newberry's Inga Woiwode (El Paso, Texas) scored the game-winner in the 85th
minute when she beat L-R senior goalkeeper Nicole Ley (Cupertino, Calif./Monta
Vista HS) on a one-versus-one after receiving a pass in the middle from Adrian
Farfan (West Palm Beach, Fla.).
The Lady Indians jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to Lindsay Landgrebe's
(Springfield, Ill.) goal on a free kick from Brooke Tumblin (Florence, S.C.) in
the 21st minute and Tumblin's score right in front of the net at the 54:18 mark.
Both Woiwode and Landgrebe were credited with the assist.
Lenoir-Rhyne then made its move beginning in the 60th minute when junior forward
Whitney Cline (Morganton, N.C./Freedom HS) scored on a ball lifted over
the Newberry defenders by sophomore midfielder Madison Shope (Raleigh,
N.C./Leesville Road HS), who was credited with the assist.
L-R then tied it a two on freshman forward Michelle Garcia's (Dallas,
Texas/Newman Smith HS) goal from 30 yards out in the 82nd minute before
Woiwode's heroics won it for Newberry.
In goal, the Lady Indians' Danielle Beckerle (St. Louis, Mo.) picked up the win
while Ley suffered the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne next hosts UNC Pembroke on Wednesday beginning at 2 p.m.
