Hickory, N.C. – The Lincoln Memorial University Women’s Soccer Team
(7-3, 2-1 SAC) topped Lenoir-Rhyne College (6-4-2, 1-2 SAC), 3-1, in a South
Atlantic Conference matchup at Bears Field Saturday afternoon.
In a match that saw all four goals scored after intermission, LMU’s Heloisa
de Oliveira (Campinas, BRAZIL) scored once and assisted on the other two Lady
Railsplitter goals.
Lincoln Memorial got on the board first in the 64th minute when Lauren Korte
(Port St. Lucie, Fla.) received a cross from Oliveira and placed it in the net.
Lenoir-Rhyne answered less than a minute later (64:43) when sophomore forward
Lauren Rosch (Knoxville, Tenn./Farragut HS) headed a corner kick from
junior forward Whitney Cline (Morganton, N.C./Freedom HS) past the keeper
to knot the game at one-all.
The Lady Railsplitters retook the lead, 2-1, with 13:15 remaining in the
match when Oliveira converted a penalty kick opportunity that was a result of a
handball inside the 18-yard box.
LMU capped the scoring for the match with 53 seconds left to play.
Patty Spielman (Melbourne, Fla.) received a long pass from Oliveira and finished
it off to push the score to 3-1.
Courtney Hollis picked up the win in goal for the Lady Railsplitters while
senior Nicole Ley (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista HS) suffered the loss
for the Bears despite making six saves.
