Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Chowan, 4-0
Bears move to 6-3-2 on the season
Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne College Women’s Soccer Team (6-3-2)
shut out Chowan University (4-7-2), 4-0, Tuesday afternoon at Bears Field.
Three different players scored for L-R and the Bears received an own goal as
well en route to the win.
L-R junior forward Whitney Cline (Morganton, N.C./Freedom HS) opened the
scoring after curving in her own corner kick 32:40 into the match.
L-R freshman forward Stevie Dellinger (Morganton, N.C./Freedom HS) made
it 2-0 going into halftime after receiving a cross from the right by sophomore
forward Lauren Rosch (Knoxville, Tenn./Farragut HS) and placing it into
the net in the 40th minute. Freshman midfielder Rebecca Lin
(Northridge, Calif./Granada Hills HS) was credited with an assist on the play as
well.
Bear freshman midfielder Kaitlyn Braddock (Dallas, Texas/Rockwall HS),
playing in her first collegiate match, scored off her own rebound shot in the
80th minute before L-R tallied an own goal just a minute later when a Chowan
player knocked the ball into the net.
Senior goalkeeper Nicole Ley (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista HS) stopped
three shots for her second shutout of the year while Chowan’s Kristy Brown
(Chesapeake, Va.) took the loss despite making 18 saves.
Lenoir-Rhyne next hosts Lincoln Memorial in a key South Atlantic Conference
match on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
