Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Soccer Shuts Out Newberry, 2-0, In
Regular Season Finale
Freshman Bobby Bolender picks up the shutout in goal in his first
collegiate start
Newberry, S.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne College Men's Soccer Team (13-5,
3-4) ended the regular season with a 2-0 shutout of Newberry College (8-9, 2-4)
Wednesday afternoon in Newberry, S.C.
Senior forward Nate Whitehurst (Manteo, N.C./Manteo HS) and sophomore
forward Amar Brkic (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds HS) tallied
goals for the Bears while freshman goalkeeper Bobby Bolender (Kennesaw,
Ga./Kennesaw Mountain HS) registered the shutout in goal in his first collegiate
start.
Bolender made three outstanding saves in the 29th minute to preserve the win for
the Bears.
Whitehurst got things going in the 18th minute when he scored on a rebound off
his own blocked shot while Brkic iced it in the second half (69th minute) after
the heading the ball into net off a cross from senior midfielder Szymon
Hryszczyk (Warsaw, POLAND/Long Island Univ.).
Newberry's Will Dieterich (Miami, Fla.) suffered the loss in goal despite
making seven saves.
Lenoir-Rhyne will next play in the first round of the 2007 Food Lion South
Atlantic Conference Tournament next Tuesday when it travels to Jefferson City,
Tenn., to take on Carson-Newman.
