Senior Day In Hickory
Bears fall to 12-5 on the year
Hickory, N.C. – The Tusculum College Men’s Soccer Team (9-6-2, 5-1-1)
upended Lenoir-Rhyne College (15-5, 2-4), 2-0, Saturday afternoon at Bears
Field. The loss was the third straight for L-R, which has lost five of their
last seven after starting the season 10-0.
After playing 45 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Pioneers came out after
halftime and scored the first goal of the match at the 50:11 mark. Bruno
Conceicao (Oranjestad, ARUBA) received a chip across the goal from Telmo Dantes
(Banjul, THE GAMBIA) to make the score 1-0.
Tusculum scored what proved to be the icing on the cake with 20:21 remaining
when Gareth Williams (Wrexham, WALES) received a pass ahead from Lucas Paulini
(Buenos Aires, ARGENTINA) and shot it past the keeper into the left side of the
goal.
Lance Moore (Morristown, Tenn.) picked up the win in goal for the Pioneers,
while junior Francisco Banuelos (Guadalajara, MEXICO) suffered the loss
for the Bears despite picking up a season-high 12 saves.
Lenoir-Rhyne will conclude its regular season when it travels to Newberry
College in Newberry, S.C., on Wednesday with a 3:00 p.m. match time. Tusculum
will face Anderson University on Saturday, Oct. 27 in Anderson, S.C. at 4:00 p.m.
