Belmont Abbey Shuts Out No. 19 Lenoir-Rhyne, 2-0, In Men’s
Soccer
Bears fall to 12-3 on the year
Belmont, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey College Men’s Soccer Team (11-5)
shut out No. 19 Lenoir-Rhyne College (12-3), 2-0, Friday afternoon in Belmont,
N.C.
The Crusaders’ Kyle Fenner (Dallas, Texas) opened the scoring in the 21st
minute with a goal off a corner kick from Luis Arrieta (Medillin, COLUMBIA)
before Brian Souza (Asuncion, PARAGUAY) scored Belmont Abbey’s second goal after
beating the keeper one-on-one at the 28:25 mark of the contest. Arrieta
was again credited with the assist.
Bryan Alenky (Plano, Texas) picked up the shutout win in goal for Belmont
Abbey while L-R’s goalkeeper, junior Francisco Banuelos (Guadalajara,
MEXICO/New York Tech) suffered the loss despite making three saves.
The Crusaders also held a 9-6 advantage in shots and handed the Bears their
second shutout loss of the year.
Lenoir-Rhyne next hosts Wingate in a South Atlantic Conference match on
Wednesday beginning at 4 p.m.
