No. 18 Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Soccer Shuts Out Catawba, 1-0

Salisbury, N.C. – The No. 18 Lenoir-Rhyne College Men’s Soccer Team
(11-1, 1-1) shut out Catawba College (5-6, 1-2), 1-0, Wednesday night in a South
Atlantic Conference match at Frock Field in Salisbury, N.C.
Junior forward Rocky Gifford (Lakeland, Fla./George Jenkins HS) scored
the lone goal in the contest with just 4:23 remaining. The shot was deflected by
the Catawba goalkeeper but had enough steam to get through.
Junior goalkeeper Francisco Banuelos (Guadalajara, MEXICO/New York Tech)
picked up his fourth shutout of the year while Catawba’s Tyler Herd (Virginia
Beach, Va.) took the loss despite stopping 13 shots and allowing just one goal.
L-R returns home to face eighth-ranked Lincoln Memorial in a key South Atlantic
Conference match at 3:30 p.m.
The Railsplitters are the top-ranked team in the NCAA Division II Appalachian
Regional Poll this week while the Bears are ranked third.
