Shena Hollar is entering her third year as Associate Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and ninth as Senior Woman Administrator at Lenoir-Rhyne University. Hollar served as Assistant Athletics Director from 2007 to 2010.
As Associate Director of Athletics and SWA, Hollar is the highest-ranking female official in the department and oversees L-R’s fall Olympic sports, women’s basketball and women’s swimming.
Hollar also served as advisor of Lenoir-Rhyne’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) up to the 2010-11 academic year. The SAAC, a NCAA-mandated student-athlete study group, works with several charity groups within the community to raise money for philanthropy. L-R’s annual Rock-A-Thon has raised over $6,000 in the past six years for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Hollar is also beginning her 14th season as Head Coach of Lenoir-Rhyne’s nationally-ranked softball team.
Hired prior to the 2000 season, Hollar has compiled a 539-175-2 mark as Bear mentor and is the school’s all-time winningest coach.
Under Hollar, L-R has captured eight South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Championships (2000, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2012) and six Food Lion SAC Tournament Titles (2000, 2001, 2002, 2007, 2010, 2011 and 2012).
Hollar also led Lenoir-Rhyne to its first-ever NCAA Division II Playoff berth in 2002 and has made return trips in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
Last spring, the Bears won the SAC Regular Season and Tournament Championships for the third straight year and advanced to the finals of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament while compiling a 48-13 mark.
Two years ago, Lenoir-Rhyne (45-10 in 2011) hosted the regional tournament, advanced to the Super Regionals and won both the South Atlantic Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships for the second straight season.
In 2010, the Bears put together a school-best 53-9 mark while hosting one-half of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament and advancing to the Super Regionals for the first time ever.
Four years ago, L-R (38-13) also hosted one-half of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament and advanced to the tournament finals.
Hollar has also been named SAC Coach of the Year on four separate occasions. She won the award in 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2011 after the Bears won South Atlantic Conference Regular Season titles.
In 2008, L-R went 42-14 on the season with a 12-2 mark in SAC play to share the league regular season title with Carson-Newman.
Six years ago, Lenoir-Rhyne posted a 48-10 mark and captured both the SAC Regular Season and Tournament Championships en route to a NCAA postseason appearance.
In 2006, L-R put together a 52-12-1 record and a runner-up finish at the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Region Tournament.
Prior to Lenoir-Rhyne, Hollar coached two years at Newberry (1998-99) while compiling a 45-61 mark and earning a share of the 1999 SAC Regular Season Crown.
Entering 2012, Hollar’s career collegiate record as a head coach is 584-236-2.
In May of 2007, Hollar won the prestigious Student Government Association Presidents’ Award for her service to the community.
Hollar received her undergraduate degree from Wingate University in 1996 and master’s degree from Morehead State University in 1997. Hollar and her husband, David, reside in Taylorsville, N.C.
