Wingate Takes Home The 2008 Food Lion SAC Women's Golf Tournament Championship

Wingate's Ashley Denton shots a 231 (+15) won individual honors

Hickory, N.C. – The Wingate University Women's Golf Team won the 2008 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women's Tournament Tuesday at the Lake Hickory Country Club at Catawba Springs.

The Bulldogs' title was the second in three years and was 144 strokes better than the runner-up, Tusculum (1007, +143) on the par-72, 5,856-yard course.

The host school, Lenoir-Rhyne, placed fifth with a 1078 (+214).

Wingate's Ashley Denton (231, +15) was the top individual and she was joined on the all-tournament team by Newberry's Franziska Blum (232, +16), Wingate's Shannon Smith (240, +24), Catawba's Kelsey Babos (241, +25) and Tusculum's Emily Palenkas (243, +27).

Lenoir-Rhyne's top golfer was freshman Brenna Martens (St. Croix Falls, Wisc.), who finished 12th with a 261 (+45).
