Hired in late 2006, Mike Houston is beginning his first season as Lenoir-Rhyne’s Defensive Coordinator and Secondary Coach.

Houston comes to L-R after spending one year (2006) as the Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator for Brevard College, a program which re-established football after a 56-year absence.

Brevard went 2-6 last year as a team which comprised of nearly all freshmen.
Houston was an integral part of a program that recruited nearly 100 players in a span of seven months, serving as recruiting coordinator for Western North Carolina, South Carolina and North Georgia.

Prior to Brevard, Houston served as the Head Coach at T.C. Roberson High School in Asheville, N.C., from 2001-05.

Under Houston, T.C. Roberson went 42-18 (5-4 in the playoffs) and was a two-time Times-News Area Coach Of The Year (2002-04).

Houston’s 2004 squad was his best ever, going 13-1 on the year.

Houston’s coaching career started at Forbush High School in East Bend, N.C., where he served as an Assistant Coach for the Football (1994-95) and Men’s Basketball Teams (1994-96).

A 1994 graduate of Mars Hill College with a bachelor’s degree in biology, Houston was a three-year letterwinner (1991-93) on the Lions’ squad as a linebacker and a tight end.

Houston, a Franklin High School (N.C.) graduate, is married to the former Amanda Owen.
