Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Cross Country Finishes Second At The 2007 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championships

Junior Genna Eisenmann and freshman Miranda Annas take First-Team All-SAC honors

Salisbury, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Cross Country Team finished second at the 2007 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championships held Saturday morning at Salisbury Community Park in Salisbury, N.C. The Bears’ second-place finish was the highest in school history.

The Bears were led by junior Genna Eisenmann (Clayton, N.C./Clayton HS) who covered the 5K course in 19:50 which was good for a third-place finish. Freshman Miranda Annas (Granite Falls, N.C./South Caldwell HS) finished sixth with a time of 20:13. Both Eisenmann and Annas earned spots on the All-SAC First Team, while Annas was also named to the South Atlantic Conference All-Freshman Team.

Wingate University took the team title with four runners in the top 15 while Carson-Newman’s Aubrey Morris took home SAC Runner-Of-The-Year honors with a winning time of 19:13.

On the men’s side, L-R finished fourth behind Mars Hill, Lincoln Memorial and Wingate, respectively. The Bears were only one point out of third place as the Bulldogs edged Lenoir-Rhyne.

L-R was led by sophomore Brad Popple (Iron Station, N.C./East Lincoln HS) and redshirt freshman Eugene Cochran (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster HS) who finished the 8K course fifth and sixth with times of 25:55 and 26:07, respectively. Both runners earned first team all-league honors, while Cochran garnered SAC All-Freshman Team accolades.

The Lions took home the team title for the 11th consecutive year with three runners in the top four and seven in the top 15. Wingate’s Jayce Watson earned conference runner-of-the-year honors with a time of 25:06.

Lenoir-Rhyne will look to earn a trip to the NCAA Division II National Championships when both teams compete in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championships on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 9:30 a.m. at Wingate University.
