End Regular Season
Bears improve to 15-12 on the year
Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne College Women's Basketball Team
(15-12, 5-9) defeated Mars Hill College (15-12, 5-9), 69-60, Saturday afternoon
at Stanford Arena in Mars Hill, N.C.
Lenoir-Rhyne raced to a 42-27 halftime lead thanks to a 22-9 run to end the half
and by hitting all 12 free throws.
However, Mars Hill rallied in the second half and a pair of free throws by
Lindsay Roberts (Murphy, N.C.) cut the margin to 57-53 with 4:42 left but the
Bears ran off five straight points and hit seven of eight free throws in the
final minute to seal the win.
L-R was led by LaCourtney Rann (Charlotte, N.C./Hopewell HS) and
Jacquelyn Kremer (Sevierville, Tenn.) with 12 points apiece while senior
guard Amber Holt (Charlotte, N.C./Hopewell HS) came off the bench to
score 10.
Mars Hill's Jessica Blanford (Concord, N.C.) led Mars Hill with 14 points and
six rebounds but the Lions shot just 34 percent (23-of-67) from the floor in the
loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne, the fifth seed in the 2008 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference
Tournament, will travel to Newberry to face fourth-seeded Newberry on Wednesday
beginning at 7 p.m.
