Senior Night In Hickory
Senior Anna Marie Ricciardi scores a career-high 11 points for the Bears
Hickory, N.C. – The Wingate University Women’s Basketball Team (19-7,
11-2) downed Lenoir-Rhyne College (14-12, 4-9), 89-72, in South Atlantic
Conference action Wednesday evening at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium. The contest
was also Senior Night for the Bears.
The Bulldogs jumped out to 7-0 lead in the first 2:08 of the game and never
looked back, leading by as much as 24 points (89-65) in the second half.
Lenoir-Rhyne, who saw five players score in double figures despite the loss,
was led by sophomore guard Amber Holt (Charlotte, N.C./Hopewell HS) with
14 points and two assists while sophomore forward Jacquelyn Kremer
(Sevierville, Tenn./Sevier County HS), added 14 points.
Senior guard Anna Marie Ricciardi (Canfield, Ohio/ETSU) scored a
career-high 11 points and pulled down a team-high five rebounds in her final
home game as a Bear. Ricciardi is the 11th Bear to score in double digits this
season.
Redshirt freshman guard LaCourtney Rann (Charlotte, N.C./Hopewell HS)
and sophomore guard Jami Safrit (Hickory, N.C./Fred T. Foard HS) tallied
12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Bears despite the loss.
Wingate was led by Kasey Gillis (Indian Trail, N.C.) with a game-high 30
points on 11-for-17 shooting on the night while Anna Atkinson (Marion, N.C.)
tallied 18 points as well for the Bulldogs.
Lenoir-Rhyne will conclude the SAC regular season with a trip to Mars Hill,
N.C., on Saturday to face Mars Hill College. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
