At Home Wednesday
Five Bears reach double figures in scoring for the game
Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne College Women’s Basketball Team
(13-11) stepped out of conference play Wednesday and routed Converse College
(3-24), 90-70, at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.
The Bears have now won back-to-back games for the first time since December
when they started the season 6-0.
Lenoir-Rhyne, which saw five players score in double figures, was led by
junior forward Jackie Williams (Mauldin, S.C./Mauldin HS) with a
double-double (12 points and 12 rebounds) and sophomore forward Jacquelyn
Kremer (Sevierville, Tenn./Sevier County HS), who scored a team-high 16
points in the win.
After going into the break with a 37-28 advantage, L-R never led by less than
nine the entire second half. The Bears took advantage of outscoring the
Valkyries, 36-16, in the paint and a 43-32 rebounding edge en route to the win.
Redshirt freshman guard LaCourtney Rann (Charlotte, N.C./Hopewell HS)
finished with 13 points and sophomore guards, Jami Safrit (Hickory,
N.C./Fred T. Foard HS) and Leslie Conetta (Sarasota, Fla./Cardinal Mooney
HS) added 12 points apiece to round out the Bears’ double-digit scorers.
Conetta’s 12 points were a career-high and made her the 10th Bear to reach
double figures this season.
Converse was led by Ashley Arff (Fox Lake, Ill.) with a game-high 21 points
and Brandy Williams (Spartanburg, S.C.), who chipped in 15 points despite the
loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns to South Atlantic Conference action when it travels to
face rival Catawba in Salisbury, N.C., on Saturday with a 2 p.m. tipoff.
