Four Bears reach double figures in scoring despite the loss
Jefferson City, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman College Women’s Basketball
Team (10-8, 4-2) defeated Lenoir-Rhyne College (10-7, 2-4) by a score of 77-66,
in a key South Atlantic Conference matchup at Holt Fieldhouse Saturday evening.
The Lady Eagles led the entire game thanks to shooting 46.9 percent (23-49)
from the floor and out-rebounding the Bears, 54-29. Emily Mason (Rogersville,
Ala.) tallied game-highs in scoring and rebounding (20 points and nine rebounds)
while Shari Buford (Hampton, Ga.) scored 13 points and pulled down seven boards
to lead Carson-Newman to the victory.
Leading 38-23 at the break, C-N went ahead by as much as 20 points in the
second half but Lenoir-Rhyne whittled the lead down to under 10 on three
separate occasions. The Bears’ biggest threat came with 35 seconds remaining
when sophomore forward Jacquelyn Kremer (Sevierville, Tenn./Sevier County
HS) hit a layup to cut the lead to five at 71-66.
Kremer would finish with 12 points and five rebounds on the night as the Lady
Eagles scored six unanswered points to end the game.
Redshirt freshman guard LaCourtney Rann (Charlotte, N.C./Hopewell HS)
led the charge for L-R, scoring 19 points and dishing out four assists while
sophomore guard Amber Holt (Charlotte, N.C./Hopewell HS) and freshman
forward Abby Munn (Lewisville, N.C./Forbush HS) both added 11 points
each. Munn is the ninth player for L-R to score in double figures this season.
Lenoir-Rhyne continues its three-game road swing on Wednesday when it travels
to Wingate to face the Bulldogs, who are tied for first place in the SAC with a
5-1 league mark. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
