Todd Starkey is beginning
his third year as Head
Women’s Basketball Coach at
Lenoir-Rhyne College. Hired
in August of
2005, Starkey became the
10th coach in program
history.
Last year, the Bears
improved by six games from
the 2005-06 season to finish
16-12 and 9-7 in the South
Atlantic Conference, a mark
good for fourth place.
In addition to its overall
improvement, L-R landed two
players in on All-SAC
teams. Denise Moore
was named to the second
team, while Amber Holt
received first-team
accolades in addition to
being named Freshman Of The
Year.
The squad went through some
growing pains in his first
season at the helm in
2005-06, finishing with a
10-18 mark but the future
bodes well for Lenoir-Rhyne
as this year's team welcomes
10 newcomers and the squad
continues to evolve into one
of his own.
Starkey has also been an
Assistant Coach for the
Bears' Men's Basketball Team
for two seasons (2002-04),
leading the team to the
2003-04 SAC Regular Season
Championship and subsequent
berth in the NCAA Division
II Playoffs.
Starkey came to L-R in 2003 after coaching
five seasons as an Assistant
for the Men's Basketball
Team at Montreat College
(1998-03) where he helped
the Cavaliers earn a berth
in the NAIA National
Tournament during the
1999-00 season. That same
year, Montreat improved its
win total from seven to 22
games, the second-best
improvement in the nation at
any level.
Starkey, a 1993 graduate of
Montreat, played one year of
basketball for the Cavaliers
after playing two seasons at
Mars Hill College.
Starkey was also part of
Crossfire, an
exhibition/semi-professional
Christian-based team out of
Asheville, NC., and has
toured many countries
overseas.
Starkey and his wife, Jodi,
reside in Hickory, N.C., and
are the proud parents of four children: Drew, Logan,
Mackayla and Brooke. |
