Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Defeats Saint Andrews Presbyterian,
2-1
Sophomore Justin Crowell pitches a complete game to lead the Bears to the
win
Laurinburg, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne College Baseball Team (22-31)
defeated Saint Andrews Presbyterian College (14-37), 2-1, Wednesday afternoon at
Clark Field in Laurinburg, N.C.
L-R sophomore Justin Crowell (New London, N.C./North Stanly HS) went
the distance for the Bears, giving up just one run while striking out two
batters as he improved to 3-6 on the year.
The Knights got on the board in the bottom of the first inning on Charles
Weber’s (Concord, N.C.) RBI double.
The game remained 1-0 until the seventh inning when the Bears tied it on
junior designated hitter Jake Hartley’s (Bluffton, S.C./Hilton Head HS)
sacrifice fly.
Sophomore second baseman Hank Wofford (Clover, S.C./Clover HS) scored
the game-winner on a wild pitch in the top of the eighth inning.
Saint Andrews Presbyterian’s B.J. Horne (Hamlet, N.C.) suffered the loss and
fell to 3-6 despite allowing just two runs over eight and two-third innings
pitched.
Junior third baseman Daniel Ford (Youngstown, Ohio/Manatee CC)
finished three-for-four to lead the Bears offensively.
Lenoir-Rhyne travels to Greeneville, Tenn., to compete in the South Region
Classic, hosted by Tusculum, beginning on Saturday.
