Saint Andrews Presbyterian Baseball Holds Off Lenoir-Rhyne,
4-3
Junior Daniel Ford ties the school record for RBI in a season with 60
Hickory, N.C. – The St. Andrews Presbyterian College Baseball Team
(14-36) defeated Lenoir-Rhyne College (21-31), 4-3, Tuesday afternoon at Bears
Field.
The Knights’ B.J. Horne (Hamlet, N.C.) went three-for-three and Alex Ridout
(Wake Forest, N.C.) finished with two hits and two runs batted in to lead Saint
Andrews Presbyterian to the win.
The Knights took advantage of a Bear error in the top of the first inning
which led to three unearned runs. Ridout’s two-out, two-run single was the key
hit in the frame.
However, L-R closed the gap to 3-2 with two runs in the bottom of the first
on RBI singles from junior third baseman Daniel Ford (Youngstown,
Ohio/Manatee CC) and junior first baseman Zac Glass (Salisbury,
N.C./Salisbury HS).
After the Bears tied it at three in the second inning on a run-scoring hit
from sophomore second baseman Hank Wofford (Clover, S.C./Clover HS), the
Knights took the lead for good in the fifth inning when Horne’s single scored
Michael Eastwood (Grantsboro, N.C.) for the game-winner.
Saint Andrews’ Caleb Johnson (Wilkesboro, N.C.) improved to 2-3 with the win
while Travis Lee (Frederick, Md.) pitched 3.2 innings of scoreless relief for
his fourth save of the year.
L-R sophomore Chris Henderson (Lincolnton, N.C./West Lincoln HS) fell
to 4-7 on the season with the loss.
Ford tied the Lenoir-Rhyne school single-season record for RBI in a season
(60), also shared by William Combs (2000) and Craig Sizemore (2001).
The two teams will face each other on Wednesday at 3 p.m., in Laurinburg,
N.C.
