Tusculum Downs Lenoir-Rhyne, 12-3, In The First Round Of
The Food Lion SAC Baseball Tournament
L-R will face Catawba on Friday beginning at 3:45 p.m.
Hickory, N.C. – The No. 29 Tusculum College Baseball Team (35-12)
defeated Lenoir-Rhyne College (21-29), 12-3, in the first round of the 2008 Food
Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament Thursday night at Bears Field.
The Pioneers are seeded third while the Bears are the fourth seed in the
tournament.
L-R will now face top-seeded Catawba on Friday beginning at 3:45 p.m., while
Tusculum faces Carson-Newman Friday at 7:30 p.m.
After senior outfielder J.D. Harrison (Winter Haven, Fla./Polk CC)
tied the game at two with a solo home run in the top of the third inning for
L-R, Tusculum took control by reeling off nine straight runs starting off with a
three-run third inning.
The Pioneers’ third frame was highlighted by Eric Conley’s (Knoxville, Tenn.) two-run single.
Ahead 6-2, Tusculum then put the game away with four runs in the bottom of
the sixth inning which included a bases-clearing triple by Matt Webb (Duluth,
Ga.).
TC’s Sean Cotten (Mooresville, N.C.) added a triple, a home run and three RBI
while Boo Morrow (Lexington, Ky.) improved to 7-0 with the win.
L-R sophomore Chris Henderson (Lincolnton, N.C./West Lincoln HS)
suffered the loss and fell to 4-6 on the season.
