Limestone Baseball Downs Lenoir-Rhyne, 11-9
Bears fall to 21-25 on the year
Gaffney, S.C. – The Limestone College Baseball Team (21-26) defeated
Lenoir-Rhyne College (21-25), 11-9, Wednesday afternoon at Bob Prevatte Field in
Gaffney, S.C.
The Saints used an eight-run second inning highlighted by a two-run home run
from Zach Watkins (Albany, Ga.) and a two-run double by Drew Lydon (White
Plains, Md.) to take control and were able to hold on for the win.
Freshman outfielder Stephen Andrews' (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor HS)
three-run home run was part of a five-run third inning for L-R but the Bears
couldn't regain the lead the rest of the way.
Limestone's Kyle Matheney (Spindale, N.C.) improved to 2-4 with the win while
Brock White (Gaffney, S.C.) was credited with the save.
For Lenoir-Rhyne, junior Greg Conrad (Charlotte, N.C./Olympic HS) fell to
2-3 with the loss.
Lydon was the top hitter for Limestone, finishing three-for-three with two runs
scored and four runs batted in.
Andrews led L-R with three hits and four RBI while senior centerfielder Mark
Drucker (Boca Raton, Fla./Indian River CC) added three hits and a two-run
double.
Lenoir-Rhyne next travels to Jefferson City, Tenn., to face Carson-Newman
College in a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader on Saturday beginning at
Noon.
