Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Downs Limestone, 7-4

Junior Daniel Ford drives in six runs to lead the Bears to the victory

Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne College Baseball Team (20-21) defeated Limestone College (20-22), 7-4, Tuesday evening at Bears Field.

Junior third baseman Daniel Ford (Youngstown, Ohio/Manatee CC) hit his team-leading ninth home run of the season and finished with six runs batted in as the Bears defeated the Saints for the third time this year.

L-R opened the scoring with three runs in the third frame highlighted by Ford’s two-run single and the Bears made it 5-0 in the fifth inning when Ford plated two more on a double.

Ford, who went three-for-four in the game, then rounded out the Bears’ scoring with a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 7-1 advantage.

Limestone tried to rally with three runs in the top of the eighth inning that included a two-run single from Ryan McKenzie (Dunedin, Fla.) but L-R senior John Patterson (Hickory, N.C./East Carolina Univ.) registered the final four outs to secure the victory for the Bears.

Lenoir-Rhyne freshman Will Moseley (Shreveport, La./Captain Shreve HS) (1-1) picked up his first win of the year while Patterson notched his first save of 2008.

Limestone’s Kyle Matheney (Spindale, N.C.) fell to 0-4 with the loss.
