Montreat Baseball Downs Lenoir-Rhyne, 7-1
Bears fall to 18-19 on the season
Montreat, N.C. – The Montreat College Baseball Team (25-8) defeated
Lenoir-Rhyne College (18-19), 7-1, Thursday afternoon at Newell Field in
Montreat, N.C. The Cavaliers are ranked No. 25 in the NAIA National Poll.
Jesse Wise (Benson, N.C.) and Adam Speas (Rural Hill, N.C.) each hit solo home
runs while Aaron Hughes (Murphy, N.C.) pitched 5.1 innings of scoreless baseball
to lead Montreat to the win.
Hughes (1-0) scattered four hits while striking out four as the Cavaliers
held the Bears without a run until the ninth inning when sophomore catcher
Randall Shepherd (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach HS) drove in junior first
baseman Zachary Glass (Salisbury, N.C./Salisbury HS) on a sacrifice fly.
L-R freshman Will Moseley (Shreveport, La./Captain Shreve HS) fell to
0-1 with the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne travels to Mars Hill, N.C., to face Mars Hill College in a South
Atlantic Conference doubleheader Saturday beginning at Noon.
