Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Rallies To Defeat Limestone, 10-9
Anthony Sully drives in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth
inning for the Bears
Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne College Baseball Team (16-16)
defeated Limestone College (18-14), 10-9, Thursday afternoon at Bears Field on a
game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth inning by freshman shortstop
Anthony Sully (Charlotte, N.C./Hopewell HS).
Sully drove in sophomore catcher Randall Shepherd (Vero Beach,
Fla./Vero Beach HS) with one out and the bases loaded to lift Lenoir-Rhyne to
the win.
Sully finished with four hits and two runs batted in while sophomore
outfielder Evan Taylor (Charlotte, N.C./Independence HS) added three hits
and two RBI as Lenoir-Rhyne defeated Limestone for the second time this year.
The lead changed hands several times throughout the contest.
Limestone scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning, highlighted by
Adam McSwain’s (Fallston, N.C.) two-run home run, for an 8-6 advantage before
L-R responded with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take back
the lead at 9-8.
The Saints tied the game at nine on McSwain’s sacrifice fly in the top of the
eighth inning before Sully’s heroics won the game for the Bears in the ninth.
L-R senior John Patterson (Hickory, N.C./East Carolina Univ.) notched
the win and improved to 1-0 after pitching two scoreless innings while
Limestone’s Jordan Liette (Versailles, Ohio) fell to 2-1 with the loss.
McSwain led Limestone with three hits and five runs batted in.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns to South Atlantic Conference play on Friday when it
hosts long-time rival Catawba in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
