Georgia Southwestern State Baseball Defeats Lenoir-Rhyne, 14-5

Freshman Caden Cross hits a three-run home run despite the loss for the Bears

Savannah, Ga. – The Georgia Southwestern State Baseball Team (5-11) defeated Lenoir-Rhyne College (11-11), 14-5, Wednesday afternoon at Hurricane Field in Savannah, Ga.

The Hurricanes took control early with seven runs in the bottom of the first inning highlighted by two-run doubles from Francisco Gomez and Byron Hayes.

A three-run home run by Bear freshman shortstop Caden Cross (Arcadia, Fla./DeSoto County HS) in the fourth inning and consecutive runs in the fifth and sixth innings cut the margin to 7-5, but the Hurricanes put the game away with Hayes’ three-run home run in the seventh frame.

Hayes (five RBI) and Gomez (three RBI) led Georgia Southwestern State offensively while James Wilson (2-1) picked up the win.

Freshman Sean Madden (Durham, N.C./Charles E. Jordan HS) fell to 0-2 with the loss for the Bears.

Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face Indiana (Pennsylvania) on Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
