Freshman Caden Cross hits a three-run home run despite the loss for the
Bears
Savannah, Ga. – The Georgia Southwestern State Baseball Team (5-11)
defeated Lenoir-Rhyne College (11-11), 14-5, Wednesday afternoon at Hurricane
Field in Savannah, Ga.
The Hurricanes took control early with seven runs in the bottom of the first
inning highlighted by two-run doubles from Francisco Gomez and Byron Hayes.
A three-run home run by Bear freshman shortstop Caden Cross (Arcadia,
Fla./DeSoto County HS) in the fourth inning and consecutive runs in the fifth
and sixth innings cut the margin to 7-5, but the Hurricanes put the game away
with Hayes’ three-run home run in the seventh frame.
Hayes (five RBI) and Gomez (three RBI) led Georgia Southwestern State
offensively while James Wilson (2-1) picked up the win.
Freshman Sean Madden (Durham, N.C./Charles E. Jordan HS) fell to 0-2
with the loss for the Bears.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face Indiana (Pennsylvania) on Saturday in a
doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
