John Hendricks
Assistant Coach
Wake Forest, 2000
Fourth Year

John Hendricks is in his fourth year as a member of the Lenoir-Rhyne College Baseball Program.  Hendricks was named the Associate Head Coach this summer after a season as Head assistant and two years as the Graduate Assistant.

His primary duties include the de
velopment and oversight of the pitching staff and the coordinator of recruiting efforts.

Hendricks supervises the strength and conditioning efforts for the entire Bears roster.  After three years of supervising the Junior Varsity program, he will be handing the reins over to Graduate Assistant Brent Haeberlin.  Hendricks has implemented several successful fund-raisers, which has been directly responsible for the recent facility improvements and player amenities.

Coach Hendricks has developed a pitching staff that in three seasons has dropped their staff ERA over three runs a game.  He has seen the Bears program go from 21-27 the year before he started his time here, to a record-breaking season of 35 wins and a national ranking as high as 13th in the nation in 2007.  Hendricks’ other passion recruiting started paying off last season as there were five first year players in the ’07 line up, as well as, the SAC freshman of the year, Justin Crowell.

For the summers of 2005 and ‘06 Hendricks was the Pitching Coach for the Mat-Su Miners in the Alaskan Baseball League.  The 2006 draft saw seven of his former players drafted, including four pitchers drafted for the first time in their careers.  Overall, Hendricks has coached eleven pitchers who have gone on to play baseball at the professional level.

Hendricks comes to Lenoir-Rhyne after working as an instructor for the Hitting Zone Baseball Academy in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Hendricks, a 2000 graduate of Wake Forest University, was an outstanding pitcher for the Demon Deacon Baseball Team.  In 1998, Hendricks was named the Most Valuable Player for the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament and an NCAA Division I First-Team All-American.  Hendricks also earned All-ACC First-Team honors twice (1998-99) and led Wake Forest to back-to-back league championships and the 1999 Demon Deacon squad finished ninth in the nation.

Hendricks left Wake Forest as the school's all-time leader in wins (34), strikeouts (312) and innings pitched (409.2).

Hendricks is a native of Kernersville, N.C., and a graduate of Robert B. Glenn High School.  As an American Legion Pitcher, Hendricks compiled a perfect a 33-0 record.

Hendricks was a 14th-round selection by the New York Mets in the 1999 Draft.
