John Hendricks is in his
fourth year as a member of
the Lenoir-Rhyne College
Baseball Program. Hendricks
was named the Associate Head
Coach this summer after a
season as Head assistant and
two years as the Graduate
Assistant.
His primary duties include
the development and oversight of the pitching staff and the coordinator
of recruiting efforts.
Hendricks supervises the
strength and conditioning
efforts for the entire Bears
roster. After three years
of supervising the Junior
Varsity program, he will be
handing the reins over to
Graduate Assistant Brent
Haeberlin. Hendricks has
implemented several
successful fund-raisers,
which has been directly
responsible for the recent
facility improvements and
player amenities.
Coach Hendricks has
developed a pitching staff
that in three seasons has
dropped their staff ERA over
three runs a game. He has
seen the Bears program go
from 21-27 the year before
he started his time here, to
a record-breaking season of
35 wins and a national
ranking as high as 13th in
the nation in 2007.
Hendricks’ other passion
recruiting started paying
off last season as there
were five first year players
in the ’07 line up, as well
as, the SAC freshman of the
year, Justin Crowell.
For the summers of 2005 and
‘06 Hendricks was the
Pitching Coach for the
Mat-Su Miners in the Alaskan
Baseball League. The 2006
draft saw seven of his
former players drafted,
including four pitchers
drafted for the first time
in their careers. Overall,
Hendricks has coached eleven
pitchers who have gone on to
play baseball at the
professional level.
Hendricks comes to
Lenoir-Rhyne after working
as an instructor for the
Hitting Zone Baseball
Academy in Winston-Salem,
N.C.
Hendricks, a 2000 graduate
of Wake Forest University,
was an outstanding pitcher
for the Demon Deacon
Baseball Team. In 1998,
Hendricks was named the Most
Valuable Player for the
Atlantic Coast Conference
Tournament and an NCAA
Division I First-Team
All-American. Hendricks
also earned All-ACC
First-Team honors twice
(1998-99) and led Wake
Forest to back-to-back
league championships and the
1999 Demon Deacon squad
finished ninth in the
nation.
Hendricks left Wake Forest
as the school's all-time
leader in wins (34),
strikeouts (312) and innings
pitched (409.2).
Hendricks is a native of
Kernersville, N.C., and a
graduate of Robert B. Glenn
High School. As an American
Legion Pitcher, Hendricks
compiled a perfect a 33-0
record.
Hendricks was a 14th-round
selection by the New York
Mets in the 1999 Draft.
