Rock Hill, S.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne University's Kat Rivers and Dawon Millwood were named South Atlantic Conference Softball Player and Pitcher Of The Week, respectively, league officials announced today. Rivers wins the award for the second straight week.
Rivers, a junior shortstop from Royston, Ga., batted .458 (11-of-24) with five home runs and 10 runs batted in to lead Lenoir-Rhyne to a 7-0 week including all five wins at the Mid-South Classic this past weekend in Spartanburg, S.C.
Rivers started off the week with a solo home run in a 5-0 win in game one of a doubleheader over Limestone on Wednesday in Gaffney, S.C., followed by home runs in three consecutive games at the Mid-South Classic in Spartanburg, S.C.
In a 12-3 win over Limestone Saturday, Rivers hit a round-tripper to go along with four runs batted in before hitting two home runs in a 4-3 victory over East Stroudsburg Saturday night.
Rivers, an all-conference and all-region pick last season, currently leads L-R (17-2) in batting average (.477), runs scored (27), home runs (nine), runs batted in (20) and slugging percentage (.969).
Millwood, a sophomore from Hixson, Tenn., went 3-0 with a 0.30 earned run average to go along with 23 strikeouts for the week.
The sophomore pitcher threw shutouts last week against Limestone (5-0) and versus Belmont Abbey (5-0) and Fairmont State (6-0) on Saturday and Sunday in the Mid-South Classic.
Millwood, a 2009 All-South Atlantic Conference honoree, is 7-1 on the season with a team-leading 0.72 earned run average and 76 strikeouts.
