Rock Hill, S.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne's Dawon Millwood has been named the South Atlantic Conference Softball Pitcher Of The Week for the fifth team this season, league offcials announced this afternoon.
Millwood, a senior from Hixson, Tenn., went 3-0 for the week with two no-hitters, a 0.32 earned run average and 12 strikeouts in leading the Bears to four wins and the 2012 SAC Regular Season Championship.
Millwood won both games of a doubleheader at Tusculum last Wednesday in Greeneville, Tenn., and tossed a no-hitter in the first contest.
Millwood concluded the week by holding Lincoln Memorial hitless in game one of a doubleheader sweep, a 13-0 victory, that helped the Bears clinch their third consecutive conference championship.
Millwood, the 2011 South Atlantic Conference Pitcher Of The Year, is currently 28-6 on the season with a 1.37 earned run average and 180 strikeouts for the 19th-ranked Bears (42-11, 14-4).
Millwood is also the school's all-time leader in wins (94) and shutouts (39) and is a three-time all-league pick (2009-11) and two-time all-region honoree (2010-11).
Lenoir-Rhyne will be the top seed in the 2012 Food Lion SAC Tournament and will face eighth-seeded Mars Hill on Thursday at 6:00 p.m., in the quarterfinal round at Red Edmonds Field in Greeneville, Tenn.
Anderson's Jessica Neidigh has been named the conference softball player of the week.
