Rock Hill, S.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne's Dawon Millwood has been selected as the South Atlantic Conference Softball Pitcher Of The Week, league officials announced this afternoon.
Millwood, a senior from Hixson, Tenn., went 3-0 for the week with a 0.88 earned run average, two complete games, one shutout and 26 strikeouts.
Millwood pitched in five of the Bears' six games last week and led ninth-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne to a 5-1 mark to begin the 2012 season.
Millwood started the year by allowing just one earned run with nine strikeouts in a 6-1 season-opening win over Belmont Abbey in a game one of a doubleheader last Wednesday at home.
Millwood added a three-hit, eight-strikeout shutout against Columbus State in a 2-0 victory Saturday afternoon in the Hughston Sports Clinic Classic in Columbus, Ga.
Millwood is a three-time All-SAC (2009-11) and two-time all-region (2010-11) honoree who was named the 2011 South Atlantic Conference Pitcher Of The Year. For her collegiate career so far, Millwood has compiled a 69-12 record.
Mars Hill's Taylor Morris was named the South Atlantic Conference Softball Player Of The Week.
The Lenoir-Rhyne University Softball Team next travels to Charlotte, N.C., to take on Queens University in doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m.
