Rock Hill, S.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne University's Major Herron (Kingsland, Ga.) has been named the South Atlantic Conference Football Offensive Player Of The Week, league officials announced today.
Herron, a senior quarterback, led L-R to a 20-7 victory over No. 17 Carson-Newman in the Bears' home and South Atlantic Conference opener last Saturday at Moretz Stadium.
Herron finished with 134 total yards of offense - a team-high 73 yards on the ground and 61 yards through the air - and scored the game-winning touchdown late in the first quarter en route to the win.
Herron also helped the Bears enjoy a time of possession advantage of over 11 minutes while the squad was turnover free in the victory.
Lenoir-Rhyne also defeated Carson-Newman for the first time at home since the 1978 season.
Wingate's Jared Seate and Brevard's Eric Watts were named the league's defensive and special teams players of the week, respectively.
Herron led the South Atlantic Conference in touchdowns scored (16) last year and topped the squad in rushing yards (883) and passing yards (829) in 2010.
Lenoir-Rhyne (2-1, 1-0) is off this week and won't play again until Saturday, October 1, when it travels to Tigerville, S.C., to face North Greenville beginning at 7 p.m.
