Charlotte, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Men's and Women's Swimming Teams posted several school records at the 2011 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships at the Mecklenburg County Aquatics Center after the first full day of competition Thursday.
Out of 12 schools, the L-R women's team stands in ninth place while the men's squad is in 11th. Johns Hopkins (women) and Wingate (men) currently lead the championship. The meet continues on Friday and Saturday.
The first session on Thursday produced several school records including sophomore Alec Reitzel (Hickory, N.C.) in the 200-yard individual medley (1:59.95) and sophomore Teddy Esch (Lenoir, N.C.) in the 500-yard freestyle (4:46.90).
The L-R Men's Swimming Team also posted records in two relays: the 400-yard medley (3:48.93) and the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:30.55).
On Wednesday night in the opening session, the men's squad posted a school-record 7:14.41 in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
Meanwhile, junior Megan Neubauer (Taylors, S.C.) set new Lenoir-Rhyne marks in the 1,000-yard (11:04.96) and 500-yard freestyle (5:29.62) races.
